Recovery Academy Event Aims to Build Careers in Construction

Service users have been invited to attended a jobs fair at the Leeds Recovery Academy.

Forward Leeds, working in partnership with Leeds College of Building, is hosting the event on Friday January 27th between 1pm & 3.30pm at The Recovery Academy on Westfield Road, as part of the city-wide Step Up Into Construction Programme.

Mike Greener, Team Leader of careers at DISC, the charity that leads the Forward Leeds service, said:

“We’re incredibly excited to hold this event and offer real job and training opportunities for people who are new to the construction industry, as well as those who may be coming back into it after some time out.”

“With a skills shortage across construction, and an estimated 224,000 jobs available, there isn’t be a better time to look into starting a career in this industry.”

The event provides an opportunity for people to meet employers in the construction industry and to speak to organisations that deliver training for those people looking to develop their construction skills. Careers advice and guidance will also be available, relating to jobs that are currently available within the Leeds City region. There will also be opportunities for people to secure work placements and taster days to help anyone who is interested make an informed decision regarding work and career choices.

Construction companies will be in attendance who are currently looking to secure new employees, including BAM, Swarthmore and SJF Roofing. Training providers working in the construction field include Learn Direct, Leeds College and The University of York Adult Learning.

Forward Leeds work very closely with CITB and ESF who have provided funding for the event and subsequent activities.

Since the programme began, a significant number of individuals have who have been part of the Step Up Into Construction Programme have successfully achieved CSCS cards, developed skills, completed work experience, with a number starting employment in the construction sector and one learner starting their own business.

Anyone interested in working or training in the construction industry is welcome to attend, the full address is The Recovery Academy, 43 Westfield Road, Leeds, LS3 1DG.
