There was an unforgettable Open Mic Night at 5 WAYS on December 13, 2024, celebrating the creativity and resilience of the recovery community.
The evening featured a diverse lineup of performances, showcasing the extraordinary talents of people in recovery. Highlights included a heartbreaking spoken word performance from Josh, powerful musical performances by Beccy and Jools, Martin, Kinga, Fabian and Leo.

Fierce rap from Liam and Ellis. A mesmerising set of electronic music from Dean Wood. The 5 WAYS improv group delivered a hilarious agony aunt performance, while Hank wowed the audience with an enthralling musical set.

5 WAYS Group Worker Michael Waters expertly hosted the night, keeping the energy going and the performances flowing seamlessly.
5 WAYS Lead Practitioner Matt Whitton said: “Tonight really highlighted the talent and strength of people in the Leeds recovery. One of the most powerful aspects of the night was people sharing their personal stories through poetry and music. It reminded us all that recovery is not just about overcoming challenges, but about embracing the power and creativity that emerges on the other side.”

Donna Green who attended the night said: “The Open Mic Night was truly fantastic! The talent was impressive and the atmosphere was incredibly welcoming. I’m so glad I decided to go, despite having a rough day and almost staying home. It turned out to be exactly what I needed to lift my spirits and enjoy some great company.”

Looking ahead, 2025 promises more recovery-focused events and Open Mic Nights, as Leeds continues its journey toward becoming an Inclusive Recovery City.
