Kathryn Blackburn is doing a 50K Monster Run along the Thames towpath to raise funds for the Forward Leeds Family Plus team.
Kathryn got support from Family Plus when her children Elinor, Alys and Zac were 18, 17 and 8 years old. Family Plus provides additional help for parents who are dealing with alcohol or drug issues at Forward Leeds.
She has now turned her life around and works as a Team Manager at Forward Leeds, helping others who are struggling with their substance use.
Kathryn said: “I can’t thank the Family Plus team at Forward Leeds enough. Getting that extra support for my children whilst I was getting help myself made such a difference for me and especially for them, and they are still benefitting now.
“Family Plus offers emotional support for children whose parents are trying to stop drinking or get off drugs. They can work with the school and offer parenting support as well. That all-inclusive support at Forward Leeds was key to helping me at a really difficult time in my life and I now want to repay some of that debt”.
Lucy Fowler who manages the Family Plus team at Forward Leeds said: “It’s wonderful that Kathryn is taking her personal time to raise funds for us. We’ll be able use this money to put on additional activities for the children and families we’re supporting to help.
“It’s a really touching thing for the team to know our support meant so much to her and her children”.
The Monster Triathlon is a 50k ultra-marathon along the banks of the Thames from Windsor to Richmond. It uses much of the Thames towpath along its route. Kathryn will be doing the run on Saturday 1st July.
