Road to Recovery League Kicks Off in Leeds

5 WAYS is organising a football league for recovery organisations in West and North Yorkshire.

Taking place at the West Riding FA facilities in Woodlesford, Leeds on Thursday 12 March, it will bring together eight services for the first Road To Recovery Football League match day of 2026.

5 WAYS volunteer Kieran Scargill, who is helping organise the event, said: “We know how powerful sport can be in bringing people together, and this tournament is all about celebrating recovery, connection and community. Every player here has a story, and seeing everyone support one another, on and off the pitch, is what makes days like this so special.”

As well as a team from 5 WAYS, the tournament will include teams from Growing Rooms, New Vision Bradford, Reflection’s House Recovery, Riverside Social Housing and The Saviour Trust.

Each team will compete in a friendly but competitive format designed to promote recovery, reduce stigma and strengthen connections across the community.

Kieran added: “The day is about more than football. Yes, the matches matter, and everyone wants to do their best, but what really counts is the sense of belonging, pride and support that comes from bringing recovery communities together. It’s a chance for people to connect, to feel part of something positive, and to celebrate how far they’ve come together.”

Spectators are welcome to come along on the day to support their team and the event which will start at 11am at the West Riding FA, Fleet Lane, Woodlesford Leeds, LS26 8NX

The event has been made possible thanks to funding from the National Lottery/Sport England. It is part of the 5 WAYS Addicted to Sport programme.
