5 WAYS and Forward Leeds celebrate at the Recovery Walk

Staff, volunteers and ex-clients of Forward Leeds were in Shrewsbury for the highlight of Recovery Month the Recovery Walk on Saturday 8 September.

The Recovery Walk is the largest event during Recovery Month and takes place in a different town or city in the UK every year. This year is the 10th year of the walk.

Carla Carr, Sustained Recovery worker at Forward Leeds and 5 WAYS said “It is a great event, I have been for the past 5 years and every year just feels better and better. It’s the best free euphoria feeling ever to see how many are in recovery.

The event was a great success with thousands of people attending from all across the UK. The walk took the crowd through Shrewsbury town centre on a circular walk back to The Quarry the large park inside the loop of the River Severn.

Live music, stalls and activities were on offer for the event attendees and the rain held off long enough for everyone to enjoy themselves. Highlights included performances by Juice Samba from Juice Sustainable Recovery Group and a live performance from Warrington band The Recoverists.

Recovery Month is an international campaign that takes place in September across the world celebrating people’s recovery from addiction. It is also much more than that – it is an opportunity to celebrate and promote the passion, wisdom and strengths within families, neighbourhoods and communities.
