Several staff at Forward Leeds have decided to do Dry January. They are sharing their stories here as the month progresses. Click on their image to see how they are getting on. Here are the reasons they have decided to do it.
I started doing dry January by accident when I suddenly realised that I hadn’t been drinking and decided to keep going throughout the month.
My motivation is to lose some weight and get back into a dress for my wedding anniversary.
I am doing dry January because I want to lose some weight, give my body a ‘kick-start’ for the new year and I could definitely do with more money in my pocket for sure!
It will hopefully encourage me to get out and do something with my time.
Before working at Forward Leeds I was quite ignorant to the dangers and health problems associated with alcohol. I work in the Single Point of Contact centre taking referrals. I hear the daily struggles, not only with individuals who have an alcohol dependency but their family and friends. By doing Dry January I want to not only feel the benefits physically and mentally but socially, knowing I do not need to drink alcohol to have fun. January is the best time as I usually have lots of birthdays and social events so I’m hoping it will not be too much of a challenge.
What motivated me to do Dry January is that I would like to improve my health, hopefully lose a little weight along the way and I would like to support Forward Leeds in increasing alcohol awareness.
For me Dry January is a great way to start the new year in a health-focused way. It is an opportunity to raise money for great causes and to increase alcohol awareness. It is also a fantastic way to save money after an expensive December!
