Get Clued Up – Early Help Drug & Alcohol Support

Aim:

This is a new, free course from the Drug and Alcohol Coordinators who work in the Leeds City Council Early Help Hubs. It is a briefing to support professionals where conversations are taking place with families around drugs and alcohol.

The briefing will cover:

  • Introduction to the Early Help Hubs and our roles as Substance Use Co-ordinator’s
  • Hidden harm and the impact of parental substance use on the children
  • Brief interventions and how we use them including an activity going through a decisional balance
  • The cycle of change
  • How to have a conversation with links to MI and an example of a conversation
  • How to contact the Substance Use Co-ordinator’s for one-to-one support for parents and young people, advice & guidance and/or workforce development

(When delivered face to face we offer the opportunity to look through drugs boxes to familiarise yourself with how different substances may look and ask any questions)

Outcomes:

  • Increased understanding of the substance use support available through the Early Help Hubs.
  • Increased understanding of the impact substance use has on the whole family.
  • To be more confident in starting conversations with families about substance use.
