Alcohol and pregnancy

The safest choice is not to drink at all during pregnancy

Did you know?

There is emerging evidence that any alcohol during pregnancy is linked to preventable disabilities such as:

  • birth defects
  • behavioural problems
  • learning difficulties
  • growth deficiencies

In 2016 the Department of Health has published new guidelines for pregnant women in England, Wales and Northern Ireland to be clear that no level of alcohol is safe to drink in pregnancy. The website alcoholandpregnancy.org.uk has more information.
